The New World, starring Batman and my dad

As most of you know, my dad is a sailor in the new Terrence Malick movie, The New World. The movie is long and slow, as Malick movies tend to be, and it has lots of shots of birds and trees, as Malick movies tend to have. It might as well not be about Jamestown at all because it's so historically inaccurate ("Wait, did they just SHOOT Wingfield?" "Wait, didn't John Smith have to go back to England because the gunpowder he was carrying in his pocket exploded?" "Wait, how come Christopher Newport has two arms?" ... not to mention the whole Smith+Pocahontas thing), but I went into the movie expecting that so it didn't bother me that much. I actually liked the movie; it's pretty much a nature film of my home on the Virginia Peninsula. The osprey are there, and the cypress trees ... they even make our brown water look pretty. Anyway, if you want to see if you can find my dad (I saw him for a split second in the background of one of the returning-to-England-on-the-ship shots), that's him in the picture. It's actually from another movie he's in, a promotional film for the museum at Jamestown, but he's still all dolled up in his seventeenth-century sailor garb. You can also look for my friends Eric Speth and Joe Freitus in the credits -- Eric is the skipper and Joe is the sailmaker/seamster.
